About
the Oakbrook Terrace Historical Society
The goal of our Historical Society is to preserve the rich history of our community by collecting, interpreting and exhibiting photos, artifacts, memorabilia, newsletters, historical documents and other historically significant materials.
The City of Oakbrook Terrace was officially established in 1958 and has grown from a tiny farm town called Utopia, to the growing and thriving city that it is today.
In the early 1980s, Deputy Clerk Arlene Hansen, being futuristic-minded and an active resident, began collecting and storing city documents and news articles for the historical preservation of our past.
In 2007, Bob Shanahan, Debbie Shanahan, Dennis Greco, Ave Berkshire and Shirley Thomas along with volunteers Maggie Murphy, Sheila Rensberger, Betty Sarallo and Bob Gorski started to build on her concept, insight and philosophy and officially formed the Oakbrook Terrace Historical Society to showcase our past.
